sunbathing

Yesterday it hit 60 at Circular Lodgic. I found a sunny spot in a vast field of snow and read Fabiola Cabeza de Baca’s memoir/history of New Mexico pre-statehood. I’m so glad I have been there before reading this book because it’s so interesting to hear her tales of places we have been, like our favorite, the Pecos River canyon.

Anyway, enough about the book. When I came in yesterday to prepare some Greek food for our dinner at Matt and Elsa’s, my face was sunburned! Some people use bodies of water to reflect sun and get the perfect tan–I use the snow.

I worked on painting the cabinets yesterday, in addition to sunbathing and reading, and today I added a coat after laundromat duty. By the time I got the coat on, I was in a short-sleeved shirt.

Afterwards, I found a high spot in the sun, got out my swimsuit top, and soaked up some rays on a mound of snow. A year ago this time, I wanted to do that, but living approximately ten feet from my neighbors, I decided I better not! Living in the woods sure has its perks and I found myself imagining what it will be like to just relax at our land instead of constantly be working on the next project. Perhaps in August…

As I lounged in the hot sun, the dogs pranced around me, splashing snow chunks up at me in their play. These cool splashes were enough to have me imagining that I really was sunbathing next to a big, cool lake. The imagination is a powerful thing! This whole 5-day Easter break has done wonders for my disposition, eh?
