For my mom’s 60th birthday, we decided to all get ourselves to Santa Fe. Tickets were bought. Plans were made. By Friday morning, everyone was at Hyde with us. We did a short hike there, seeing the sights of the campground area and then drove up to the Ski Basin so they could see the Rio Grande Valley and all the mountain ranges that surround Santa Fe. Then we relaxed, got everyone showered with our two solar bags, and we headed in to town. We hit up 2nd Street Brewery and then headed to Maria’s for dinner. After a 45 minute wait, getting scolded by a cranky man who was waiting for margaritas, we finally sat down to feast. Everything was delicious, but Bryan most admired this odd painting above our table. It is of a group of monks drinking and eating around a large table. It’s bright, but kind of an odd painting. He said, “I love that painting. I don’t know why; it’s really weird, but I’ve never loved a piece of art like I love that.” More on that later. Stuffed from dinner, we headed back up the mountain and hit the hay in preparation for our big rafting trip to come!
