the porch has arrived

Last weekend we brought you a finished deck, which was a delight in and of itself. This weekend, we give you a porch, albeit without a roof. Bryan basically singlehandedly built the porch walls this week and today he added the storm doors that close it off. Now we just need a roof! It’s pretty exciting and we started off life with a porch by having friends over for brats over a fire and a long, sunny afternoon and evening enjoying the yurt forest.

The fire only got slightly out of hand, one of many good reasons to have friends in forestry around.

In my last post, I mentioned that we were having some persistent bird visitations. Below you will find proof. I’ve decided this guy is like Narcissus from Greek mythology (he fell in love with his own reflection in a pool of water). Anyway, this guy woke us up at 5:30 Saturday morning with his incessant pecking and cawing at his own image reflected in the stainless steel stove pipe.

Did you guys paint all the pieces green or did they come like that? Why are they green? That bird is so cute. I love birds. They’re just mini dinosaurs. And I love dinosaurs!
